A doctor of the Sorbonne against Bucer. The refutation of Martin Bucer's ideas by the bishop of Avranches, Robert Céneau (September 1534). A presentation is offered of the eristic art used by the Sorbonne doctor Robert Céneau, bishop of Avranches, against Martin Bucer in September 1534. After a study of the significance of the reference to John Fisher, the humanist bishop of Rochester opposing Anglicanism at the same moment, an examination is made of the way in which Robert Céneau appeals to the literal meaning of Scripture in an attemps to disqualify his opponent, whom he portrays as a heretic and even a madman and wizard, as well as his use of the argument of authority.

On présente l'art éristique mis en œuvre par le sorbonniste Robert Céneau, évêque d'Avranches , contre Martin Bucer, en septembre 1534. Après avoir étudié la signification de la référence à John Fisher, l'humaniste évêque de Rochester opposé alors à l'anglicanisme, on voit comment Robert Céneau se fonde sur le sens littéral de l'Écriture pour disqualifier son adversaire, dont il fait un hérétique et même un fou et un sorcier, et sa manière d'utiliser l'argument d'autorité.
