Résumé En Fr Nl

José Barbieux and Freddy Thuillier, xvnth century brick ovens in Tourcoing (Nord). Rescue excavations of the Récollets convent in Tourcoing carried out in 1996 by the Tourcoing Archaeological Department allowed to discover three brick ovens connected with the construction of the building (the church was erected between 1672 and 1674). They are ovens of the « stack » type built in a pit. They belong to two different groups. The A and B ovens (with useful areas respectively of 71 m2 and approximately 70 m2) are fitted with a fore pit and with channels primed by dug out gutters. Oven C, with its exceptional dimensions (useful area of 120 m2), had a fore pit at each of its extremities, and its bottom was flat. These findings complement the descriptions of the xvmth and xixth centuries. The paper ends on an estimate of the capacity of these ovens and with a regional inventory (Nord - Pas- de-Calais) of these baking facilities for the modern period.
