В русской живописи встечается изображения чаепития из блюдца (у Перова, Кустодиева). Но откуда происходит этот обычай ? Французские учебники по эти-кету XIX в. (Гримо де ля Рениер, баронесса Стаф) сурово осуждают эти маниеры, повидимому весьма распростаненные, и которых отражает литература (от Молиера до Флобера). В России, этот обычай вероятно распространился под влиянием французских учителей и гувернанток скромного происхождения на купнческих детей тогоже сословия.

Scenes showing people drinking tea from a saucer are rather common in russian painting (Perov, Kustodiev, etc.). But where did the habit come from in the first place ? French handbooks of good manners of the XIXth century, advise strongly against it (grimod de La reynière, baronne Staffe) showing that it was a widespread practice alluded to in literature (molière, Flaubert…). In russia, it may be the result of the good manners lessons given by middle class French teachers and governesses to their middle-class merchant pupils.

En Russie, cette habitude résulte des bonnes manières inculquées par des précepteurs et gouvernantes français de modeste origine aux enfants de marchands de modeste envergure.
