Résumé Ar En Fr

A limited excavation performed in 1993 on the PNA site DH 49/ WHS 524 allowed us to confirm the hypothesis formulated after the survey in 1987, namely, the existence of substantial PNA presence on this site. The unexpected discovery of architectural remains, architectural rework and several well defined occupation levels strengthens the idea of a permanent settlement over a long period of time, probably several human generations. This excavation helps to anchor the idea of a substantial PNA implantation in South Jordan and should encourage further research on similar small PNA sites identified in various surveys in that same region. Z. Kafafi’s study aims at presenting a typological analysis of the 1993 excavated pottery collection at the site of Dharih (49/ WHS 524). Parallel pottery repertoire, found at other contemporaneous sites in the southern part of the Levant, is termed as Pottery Neolithic A and dated to the second half of the sixth millennium BC. The excavated pottery vessels from this type of pottery were made by hand and characterized by having coarse ware, creamy slip, burnished and red painted. Cups, bowls and jars are the main forms recognized in this pottery assemblage.
