Urban/rural Gardens in VanuatuIn Vanuatu, gardens produce most of the food for 80% of the population. But they are also a place to which feelings and a social identity are attached. A comparative study of two groups originally from the same island but now living respectively in rural (Mota Lava, Banks Islands) and urban (Mango, Santo Island) environments shows that, although outside factors condition their organization, layout and uses, gardens still reflect the customs and traditions of the island from which these groups came.þ
