Les redéploiements des armées au sein du territoire national libèrent de nombreuses infrastructures militaires inscrites au cœur des paysages urbains et périurbains des villes de garnison. Le paysage de la place militaire de Metz est le produit des empilements militaires successifs de différentes époques. Le départ progressif de l’armée entraîne l’aliénation et le retour à la ville d’îlots fermés de casernes et de ceintures de forts. Comment la métropole messine parvient-elle à réorganiser ces espaces démilitarisés transformant un héritage paysager identitaire en un patrimoine ? La reconversion fonctionnelle s’accompagne d’un processus de patrimonialisation mis en œuvre dans la réhabilitation des anciennes casernes Steinmetz, ou encore dans la requalification du site du mont Saint-Quentin.

Military redeployment within the country has freed up many military infrastructures at the heart of the urban and peri-urban landscapes of garrison towns. The landscape of the garrison district of the town of Metz is the result of successive strata of military installations from different periods. The gradual departure of the Army has led to the transfer and restitution to the town of closed blocks of barracks and fortified enclosures. How does the city of Metz reorganise these demilitarised areas to transform an inherited landscape with a marked identity into a part of its heritage?
