Résumé Fr En It

It was Jean-Pierre Jeancolas (1937-2017), member of the AFRHC since 1985, vice-president and then president of the association (1992-1996), who had the idea for the title of our journal : 1895. A film critic for several periodicals (Positif, Jeune Cinéma, Politis), Jeancolas will be remembered for his work as primarily a historian of French cinema, but also of Hungarian cinema. It is this aspect of his work that several researchers revisit in this dossier, in order to evaluate both the contribution made by Jeancolas, and its limits, a body of research that he wanted others to pursue and develop after him, notably the considerable archive he had assembled and carefully organized, now deposited in a collection bearing his name at the University of Lausanne. Furthermore, the dossier includes a paper that Jeancolas delivered at a symposium in Oxford in 1991, and previously unpublished to the best of our knowledge : « The French Communist Party and the Cinema (1944-1953) ».
