In April and May 1968, two leading employees of the VEB Zementanlagenbau (ZAB) in Dessau travelled from the GDR to Nuevitas, Cuba. ZAB Dessau was in the middle of building a cement plant near the small Cuban town in the province of Camagüey in the East of the country.
