J. Wiesehöfer, in the final contribution to the volume takes a look at the descriptions and drawings of historical sites, in particular Persepolis, by early travellers to Persia, including luminaries such as C. Niebuhr, C.J. Rich and Ker Porter, as well as H. Rawlinson and W. K. Loftus. He critically notes the imperialistic ambitions of later 19th century expeditions and contrasts them with earlier endeavours driven by sheer curiosity; in particular, C. Niebuhr is commented upon favourably.
