Le site de Noli, en Ligurie occidentale, connu pour les enquêtes archéologiques autour de l’église de San Paragorio commencées au xixe siècle, a fait l’objet, entre 2004 et 2007, de nouvelles campagnes de fouilles. Dans deux zones différentes, les interventions ont confirmé les antécédents romains du village du haut Moyen Âge et démontré l’existence d’un habitat qui, datant de la Rome républicaine, se prolonge jusqu’au xe siècle. Ce texte examine les modalités de formation d’un habitat romain et sa transformation en un village du haut Moyen Âge, où coexistent zones résidentielles et zones artisanales.

New and extensive excavations have been carried out over the last three years at Noli, in central-western Liguria, a site already known for the archaeological exploration around the church of San Paragorio which began in the 1970s. These recent investigations, in two distinct areas, have not only confirmed a Roman presence prior to the emergence of the Early Medieval village unearthed before the 1990s, but has also produced documented evidence of a settlement that developed during the early Roman Republic, and continued into the 10th century. In this paper the author analyses the processes involved in the formation of the Roman settlement and its conversion into an Early Medieval village : corresponding archaeological data has confirmed the co-existence of residential areas and buildings where various types of production activities were carried out.

Die archäologische Erforschung von Noli (Westligurien) begann in den siebziger Jahren des vorigen Jahrhunderts rund um die San Paragorio-Kirche. Neue, großangelegte Ausgrabungen erfolgten zwischen 2004 und 2007 in zwei verschiedenen Bereichen. Sie bestätigten, daß die Wurzeln des frühmittelalterlichen Dorfes in die Römerzeit zurückgehen, denn sie deckten Siedlungsspuren auf, die mit einer Schiffsanlegestelle aus der Zeit der römischen Republik beginnen und bis zum 10. Jh. reichen. Vf. untersucht, wie die römerzeitliche Siedlung entstand und sich zum frühmittelalterlichen Dorf entwickelte, in welchem Wohn- und Gewerbegebiete nebeneinander bestanden, letztere mit Werkstätten für unterschiedliche Handwerke.
