The Tantu Paṅgәlaran is an Old Javanese prose literary work that “is not history, and also not fiction” (p. 3), which intends to transmit aspects of life and belief of, and for, the communities of Śaiva hermits inhabiting the network of religious institutions (maṇḍala) located in the mountains of ancient Java.
