Established by laymen in 1994, the Tro-Breiz (Brittany Tour) restores the tradition of a medieval pilgrimage known as “the pilgrimage to the seven saints of Brittany”. The unforeseen success of the Tro-Breiz has seen the pilgrimage extended by a pharaonic project of a Thousand Saints’ Valley at Carnoët, in the Côtes d’Armor region. A thousand of granite statues, will pay homage to the thousand of saints honoured in Brittany. This procession marks the reconstruction of the region as a sacred space. It can be seen as both a return to the land disfigured by man and a quest for a cultural and spiritual lineage beyond Catholicism. In this way, it questions the nature of classical pilgrimage.
