La statue de Fortuna au forum de Philippes et son écrin architectural

L’article exploite l’occasion rare d’étudier ensemble une statue et la construction où elle était présentée et mise en valeur. Les fragments de la statue comme de son baldaquin ont été trouvés ensemble lors de la fouille de 1931. Le baldaquin consiste en un petit édicule corinthien à deux colonnes, ouvert en façade et sur les côtés, accolé au mur Sud de la curie. La légèreté de sa construction comparée à la massivité de la statue exécutée d’un seul bloc, implique qu’il a été construit autour de la statue, après sa mise en place et son achèvement. La statue assise de Fortuna se présentait de face, tournée vers l’espace qui tenait lieu de basilique civile au forum. L’emplacement où elle se trouve lui donne ainsi tout son sens. L’ensemble a été mis en place au moment des grands travaux de la deuxième phase architecturale du forum, dans le troisième quart du iie s. p.C., et détruit par le séisme qui a gravement affecté les bâtiments du forum vers le début du vie s.

Το άρθρο εκµεταλλεύεται την σπάνια ευκαιρία για µελέτη από κοινού ενός γλυπτού και της κατασκευής στην οποία παρουσιάστηκε και προβλήθηκε. Θραύσµατα του γλυπτού, καθώς και του στεγάστρου του βρέθηκαν µαζί κατά την ανασκαφή του 1931. Το στέγαστρο αποτελείται από ένα µικρό κτίσµα κορινθιακού ρυθµού µε δύο κίονες, ανοιχτό στην πρόσοψη αλλά και στις πλευρές του, ενώ εφάπτεται στον νότιο τοίχο της curia. Η ελαφρότητα της κατασκευής σε σχέση µε το ογκώδες του γλυπτού, το οποίο λαξεύτηκε σε ένα κοµµάτι λίθου, υποδηλώνει ότι αυτό κατασκευάστηκε γύρω από το άγαλµα και αφού αυτό είχε ήδη τοποθετηθεί και ολοκληρωθεί. Το καθιστό άγαλµα της Τύχης-Fortuna παρουσιάζεται µετωπικό, στραµµένο προς το χώρο, που χρησιµοποιούταν ως κοσµική βασιλική του forum. Η τοποθεσία προσδίδει στο γλυπτό τη σηµασία του. Το σύνολο τοποθετήθηκε την περίοδο κατά την οποία πραγµατοποιούνταν µεγάλης κλίµακας εργασίες κατά τη διάρκεια της δεύτερης αρχιτεκτονικής φάσης του forum, στο 3ο τέταρτο του 2ου αι. µ.Χ. και καταστράφηκε από σεισµό, ο οποίος έπληξε σοβαρά τα κτίσµατα του forum, γύρω στις αρχές του 6ου αι. µ.Χ.

The article exploits the rare opportunity to study together a statue and the structure in which it was presented for admiration. The fragments of the statue and its canopy were found together during the 1931 excavation. The canopy consists of a small Corinthian aedicule with two columns, open in front and on the sides, attached to the south wall of the curia. The lightness of its construction compared to the massiveness of the statue, executed in a single block, implies that it was built around the statue, after the latter’s installation and completion. The seated statue of Fortuna was presented from the front, facing the space that served as a civil basilica at the forum. This location thus gives it its full meaning. The group was installed during the major works of the second architectural phase of the forum in the third quarter of the 2nd century AD, and was destroyed by the earthquake that seriously affected the buildings of the forum in the beginning of the 6th century.
