Der Beitrag betrachtet ein Kommunikat, das Frédéric Mistral anlässlich seiner Silberhochzeit im Jahr 1901 von Seiten der deutschen Provenzalist*innen zuging. Es handelt sich dabei nur vordergründig um Glückwünsche; tatsächlich versuchen die Deutschen, ihre Position innerhalb der Organisation des Felibrige zu festigen. Die Absichten werden sowohl auf der Inhalts- als auch auf der Gestaltungsebene des Textes sichtbar, der einerseits althergebrachte Konventionen der Briefkommunikation tradiert, anderseits auf öffentliche Rezeption ausgelegt ist. Gleichzeitig zeichnet er ein Bild der Ehe Mistrals, das auf Zuschreibungen der Deutschen, nicht aber auf Fakten basiert.

L’article porte sur un message de félicitations envoyé à Frédéric Mistral par les Provençalistes allemands à l’occasion de ses noces d’argent en 1901. Il ne s’agit qu’à première vue de félicitations : les Allemands essaient avant tout de fortifier leur position au sein de l’organisation du Félibrige. Leurs intentions se manifestent tant au niveau du contenu que dans la manière dont le texte est présenté. D’un côté, le texte véhicule d’anciennes normes de la communication épistolaire, de l’autre, il est conçu dans la perspective de sa réception par le public. Il brosse ainsi un tableau du mariage de Mistral reposant sur une construction échafaudée par les Allemands, et non sur des faits.

The paper investigates a communication sent to Frédéric Mistral by the German provençalists on the occasion of his silver wedding anniversary in 1901. The correspondence only seems to convey congratulations: the Germans try mainly to stabilise their position within the Felibrige organisation. Their intentions become clear once we look closer at the content of the text as well as how the text is presented. It hands down old traditions of epistolary communication just as it is made to be published. Simultaneously, the text develops an image of Mistral’s marriage that rests on German attributions rather than facts.
