Suivant la pensée de Paul Virilio sur l’accident intégral, cet article pose l’accident sous toutes ses formes comme consubstantiel de l’architecture et de l’urbanisme. En observant comment l’accident a pu tyranniser les ressources matérielles dans l’art de bâtir et comment il trouve une expression définitive dans la ruine, l’article tente une nouvelle définition de l’accident comme ressource immatérielle face à des risques qui ne cessent de s’accroître. Dès lors, penser la ruine à l’envers dans le processus architectural ouvrirait la voie à une économie de moyens matériels.

Following Paul Virilio's thinking on the integral accident, this article presents the accident, in all its forms, as being consubstantial with architecture and urbanism. By observing how the accident has been able to tyrannize material resources in the art of building, and how it finds a definitive expression in ruin, the article attempts to form a new definition of accident as an immaterial resource in the face of ever-increasing risks. Therefore, thinking of ruin in reverse in the architectural process would open the way to an economy of material resources.
