Some epic poems from the end of the 16th century to the beginning of the 17th century celebrate Henri IV for being at the same time a war hero and the architect of peace. The rhetoric of eulogy, the use of mythological metaphors and above all the neo-stoic moral reasoning enable poets to overcom this apparent contradiction.
