Durante la Seconda guerra mondiale il fascismo inviò un importante numero di donne nei campi di internamento. Questo articolo descrive le strutture utilizzate esclusivamente per la reclusione delle donne, le ragioni per le quali furono internate e cosa le portò ad essere totalmente sradicate dalla vita di tutti i giorni. Per alcune di loro l’esperienza della reclusione fu una parentesi, ma per altre fu l’inizio di una vita del tutto differente dalla precedente. Per altre ancora, fu l’inizio di una “discesa agli inferi” che le portò ad Auschwitz e, spesso, alla morte.

During the Second World War Fascism sent a large number of women to internment camps. This article describes the structures that exclusively housed women and reconstructs who these women were, the reasons for which they were interned, and what led them to be totally uprooted from everyday life. Many experienced segregation as a parenthesis, but for others it was the beginning of a different life, always separate from their previous one. For some, therefore, it was the beginning of a “descent into hell” that would lead to Auschwitz and almost always to death.
