João Leal, « Açorianidade: literatura, política, etnografia (1880-1940) », Etnográfica, ID : 10.4000/etnografica.4381
This article focuses on some of the most representative essays written between 1880 and 1940 by Azorean scholars interested in asserting the identity of the archipelago vis à vis continental Portugal. Although originating from different disciplinary and discoursive traditions, such as politics, literature and ethnography, those essays share a strong emphasis on topics like folk, ethnic roots and culture. Ethnogenealogy, ethnic psychology and the “objectification” of Azorean folk culture, in particular, are shown to be the major arguments for Azorean identity among the authors analysed.
