The recent and somewhat chaotic decision to replace Arlene Foster with Edwin Poots, and his subsequent rejection in favour of Sir Jeffrey Donaldson MP, as the leader of the Democratic Unionist Party (DUP) has once again brought into sharp focus the social conservatism of the party and its membership.
