L’article que nous proposons traite des approches historiographiques et critiques des systèmes d’organisation des connaissances, notamment de la classification des savoirs. Ainsi, en menant cette étude, notre objectif est triple : retracer l’histoire des classifications documentaires dites « universelles » et mettre en évidence l’apport spécifique des auteurs français au champ de l’organisation des connaissances notamment celui des Encyclopédistes. Cette approche historiographique sera suivie par un examen critique des classifications et leur place à l’ère du numérique, et nous aborderons enfin les questions éthiques des SOC.

The article we propose deals with historiographic and critical approaches to knowledge organization systems, including the classification of knowledge. Thus, by conducting this study, our objective is threefold : to retrace the history of the so-called « universal » documentary classifications and to highlight the specific contribution of French authors to the field of the organization of knowledge in particular that of the Encyclopedists. This historiographic approach will be followed by a critical examination of classifications and their place in the digital age, and we will finally address the ethical issues of the CSS
