Chinese sociology developed widely before 1949 but was then banned for ca. 30 years before ultimately renewing its rapid development trajectory. This blank page of history has led to knowledge becoming invisible at two different points in time: during this recent period; but also before 1949. In 1979, when sociologists started to resuscitate the discipline, they moved quickly to familiarise themselves with the sociologies of Western Europe, Central and Eastern Europe, India and North America....
