Esa Christine Hartmann, « Anabasis de T. S. Eliot et Saint-John Perse : genèse d’une traduction à quatre mains », Palimpsestes, ID : 10.4000/palimpsestes.6032
The collaborative translation process that gave birth to the English versions of Saint-John Perse’s poetic work has long been a well-kept secret. Concerning the English translation of the poem Anabase [Anabasis] (1924) by T. S. Eliot, the hidden but intensive collaboration between the two poet-translators is evidenced on T. S. Eliot’s typescript, richly annotated by Saint-John Perse. The variants and corrections of the latter reveal a self-translation activity, the scriptural procedures of which characterise both the initial genesis of the French poem Anabase and the translation process of Anabasis.
