Le « paysage de l’historien » : entre sources et méthodes

La notion de paysage est polysémique autorisant une ouverture interdisciplinaire. Elle est devenue un concept transversal renouvelant les pratiques scientifiques. S’interroger sur les éléments structurants du paysage revient à analyser des « objets hybrides » qui ne peuvent être abordés par le seul regard des sciences de la nature et dans la seule perspective actuelle. Dans cet article, il s’agira de comprendre comment l’historien appréhende le paysage (concepts, outils et méthodes) à travers l’exemple des dynamiques du territoire forestier de l’Avesnois (Nord).

The notion of the landscape is polysemic, making an interdisciplinary approach possible. It has become a transverse notion introducing new scientific practises. Analysing the structural elements of the landscape is equivalent to analysing “hybrid objects” which cannot be approached from the sole perspective of the natural sciences. This article attempts to explain how an historian considers the landscape (concepts, tools and methods) through the example of the dynamics of the woodlands in the Avesnois region in the North of France.
