The town of Pamiers has a rich industrial history, which began in the 19th century with the installation of a forge factory, still operating today. Following an industrial heritage inventory, the Ariège Pyrenees inter-communal agency launched a promotional project. In just three years, an electric locomotive was restored for static presentation, a pounder hammer was placed at the entrance to the city and an interpretation trail was set up. This popular project enabled inhabitants to reclaim often overlooked heritage, finding familiar symbols - in particular a locomotive - to which they were much attached.
