Myriam Ponge, « La ponctuation : lieu de (re)motivation iconique », Cahiers de praxématique, ID : 10.4000/praxematique.4002
As a set of non-alphabetical characters, without phonemic correspondent, punctuation marks have ideogrammatic qualities which distinguish them from other marks in our writing system. This study aims to examine the mechanisms of motivation (or even re-motivation) in this particular system of graphic signs. The analysis of “effects of meaning” (Guillaume, 1964) in speech leads us to appreciate the variability of the degree of iconicity ; as a final step, we will account for the ascendancy of this aspect in punctuation mark proposals.
