This paper analyzes an unusual event, a regional accent contest. First the event is contextualized by telling the story of the whole operation named “Dis woir”. Then the article focuses on the winner of the competition, met in 2017, ten years after being crowned ambassador of the Neuchâtel accent. How did she experience this highly publicized event in the French-speaking part of Switzerland? From a sociolinguistic point of view, have the objectives pursued by the contest organizers been achieved? Can the contest be interpreted as an “acte de déminorisation”? Why this type of contest has not been replicated elsewhere in French-speaking Switzerland to this day? The paper proposes elements of answer to these various questions.
