The World Wide Web is a communication system that emerged from Western culture, and therefore questions can be raised about its legitimacy, in terms of both its ideology and its practical applications. Although it is available to all, the Web has no connection to the traditions of certain communities; this can serve to reinforce inequality by forcing some to adopt the culture of others. To address this problem, the concept of invention is relevant because it maintains an interdependent relation with the concept of culture, which can be understood as a collection of discoveries and creations. These reflections are given form through an exploration of the Mukurtu CMS, a content management system specifically designed for storing and sharing the cultural heritage of indigenous peoples.
