The aim of this article («Metaphor as a storehouse of mean¬ ing») is to bring into perspective the analyses made by Ricœur in The Rule of Metaphor, likewise in Time and Narrative, and those of Blumenberg on the topic of metaphors. Ricœur thinks metaphors as a «semantic innovation» which gives access to the pre-objective world, thus opening the way to the fundamental question of «non-conceptuality » which is at the heart of the thought of Blumenberg. In other thinkers of the modem period linked to the phenomenological tradition, recourse to metaphor, even if it is not thematised as such, confirms this interpretation. This is notably the case in Hannah Arendt, in her reading of the allegory of the cave in «Tradition and the Modem Age» (in The Crisis in Culture), but also when she has recourse to the metaphor of the breach in the preface to The Crisis in Culture (transl. J. Dudley).
