Résumé 0

Informations juives (1941-1942) or the Ambiguities of a French-Yiddish Newspaper during the OccupationBetween April 1941 and January 1942, the Association consistoriale israélite de Paris published the weekly circular, Informations juives. The means to both publish new laws for the Jewish community in the Occupied Zone and to disseminate articles on Jewish literature, culture, and history, this publication, organized by the Commission générale aux questions juives, presents troubling juxtapositions. How should a series or articles on the history of the Jews of France, for example, be read side-by-side public notices of the Nazis and the Prefecture of Police ? How can we decipher this periodical that was meant to be both the voice of the authorities and the voice of the community ? Starting the eighth issue, Informations juives became a bilingual publication. It included articles in French along with translations into Yiddish. This article analyzes the multilingual space of this newspaper, in which articles and Nazi laws, themselves translated into Yiddish, are juxtaposed. Reading Informations juives as a cultural product of its time brings to light contradictions and tensions within the polyglot French Jewish communities at the beginning of the Occupation.
