Spanish media were both the actors and the first beneficiaries of the Franquist regime crisis followed by the reestablishment of democracy. The media supply then changed in Spain with a new situation in which the demands of democratization and autonomy in relation to the political power soon yielded to economic stakes. TV ratings and opinion polls carried out regularly since the 1070s by professionals show just how “normal” and similar to its European counterparts the Spanish landscape has become. It is true that the denunciation of public control on television news still makes the news in Spain. But the issues are now more questions of society carried in prime time programs and on the problems of globalization of an industrial sector in which demands for immediate profitability take more and more precedence over those of quality.
