Le dispositif « Voisins Vigilants » permet la mise en place de réseaux de surveillance au sein de quartiers afin de lutter contre les cambriolages. Cet article entend interroger le rapport que ce dispositif devenu massif entretient au lien social. Nous faisons l’hypothèse qu’il y a une inversion du rapport entre lien social et contrôle social. Ainsi, l’organisation de la surveillance collective est censée recréer une communauté locale inexistante.

The “Neighborhood watch” system consists in the establishment of surveillance networks within neighborhoods to fight against burglaries. This article intends to question the way that this massive phenomenon has toward social link. We make the assumption that there is an inversion of the relationship between social link and social control. Thus, the organization of collective surveillance is supposed to recreate local communities where they no longer exist.
