Le libéralisme Hayek est fondé sur la notion d’ordre. Celle-ci est principalement utilisée par Hayek pour penser ce qu’il appelle l’ordre spontané de marché. Reprenant la distinction entre ordre spontané et ordre organisé, nous montrerons que l’une des grandes faiblesses du système hayekien réside dans l’extrême fragilité des relations entre ces deux types d’ordre : il y aurait une sorte d’indétermination organisationnelle de l’ordre spontané du marché hayekien. Celui-ci ne serait compatible qu’avec des composantes individuelles simples (des organisations simples ou atomistiques) et ne saurait admettre l’existence ou le développement en son sein d’entités organisées plus complexes (organisations non atomistiques). Une intégration des organisations complexes menacerait non pas la notion d’ordre spontané dans l’absolu, mais la construction qu’en fait Hayek et les implications normatives qu’il en tire.

Hayek founds his liberalism on the notion of order, principally used to construct his theory of spontaneous market order. After discussing the importance and the ambiguities of the distinction between spontaneous orders and organized orders, we show that one of the great weaknesses of this theory is that it could not integrate consistently the two types of order. Hayekian spontaneous market is incompatible with complex organizations (non-atomistic organized orders) and could be constituted only by simple organizations (atomistic organized orders). Our conclusion is not that the notion of spontaneous order is meaningless per se : only its theoretical construction by Hayek and the normative implications he derives from it are criticized here.
