In 2016, I attended a two-day conference for researchers of autism in Gent, Belgium. This conference was explicitly geared at autism researchers in the biomedical field. One of the speakers showed videos of a fruit fly and mouse that were supposed to exhibit autistic traits. In both animals, the researchers had changed or switched on or off a candidate gene for autism.
