La guerre entre l’Éthiopie et l’Érythrée, qui a débuté en mai 1998, reste dangereusement bloquée, aussi bien du point de vue militaire que diplomatique. Cet article fournit l’arrière-plan de la situation et s’interroge sur le plan de paix lancé par l’OUA. Il souligne également la dimension économique du conflit, en insistant sur la rivalité entre élites tigréennes et érythréennes.

Notes on the Eritrean-Ethiopian WarThe war between Eritrea and Ethiopia, which began in 1998, remains at a dangerous standstill from both a military and diplomatic point of view. This article reviews the background of the present situation, a chronology of the main phases of combat, and the contents of the peace plan put forth by the OAU. It also underscores the economic dimension of the conflict and rivalries between Tigrean and Eritrean elites.
