Résumé 0

During the twenties a “Jewish renewal” came to light, unexpected in the French literature. The wealth of writings, writers, magazines, handed over through main publishing houses, shows the birth of a Jewish literature. On closer look, we can get an idea of how the newness of this occurrence makes its significance opaque for the eyes of the people of that period. The Jewish magazines are a proof of its vitality whereas the non-Jewish magazines ignore its identification. The writers themselves, except a very few, misinterpret the stakes of this phenomenon. Now, what draws the encounter of writers whose ideals and styles are so diverse, is not a unique aim about literature only, but also the project to illustrate the new Jewish condition brought by modernity, starting from 1900 to the first World War. Because from now on the Jewish sayings must be transmitted, together with the refunding of a new commune identity, this is the main thread that leads the Jewish literature of the twenties.
