Abstract 0

Using the empirical example of the labor market, this article proposes to adopt an epistemological approach to knowledge of social change, situated at the crossroads between sociological discourse and literary narrative. In doing so, it rejects the theoretical position according to which sociology is hierarchically superior to literary fiction. This attempt to “do” sociology through literature, and to break with a simplistic outlook that considers the scientific and literary understandings of the social world as polar opposites, can be said to be successful if we look at the historical changes in the labor market with these two different mindsets—which continually intersect and interact with each other.
