Le Psautier est, pour Augustin, prophétie de l’union du Christ et de l’Église. L’article cherche à percevoir la signification théologique de ce statut prophétique, en examinant de près l’interprétation augustinienne du verset liminaire du livre (Ps 1,1), déjà représentative de la façon dont l’évêque d’Hippone commente les psaumes. Les prophéties psalmiques du Christ et de l’Église déjà accomplies par le Christ en sa Pâque, restent pour nous des prophéties. En effet, le temps de l’Église, entre accomplissement et attente, est celui du déploiement de l’intimité du Christ-époux et de l’Église-épouse, du Christ-tête et de l’Église-corps.

The psalter, in Augustine’s mind, prophetically signifies the union between Christ and the Church. The present article, in its endeavour to clarify the theological import of that prophetic status, scrutinises the augustinian interpretation of the first verse of the book (Ps. 1,1) as representative of the way Augustine comments on the psalms. The prophecies of the psalms concerning Christ and the Church, which have already been accomplished by Christ in his Passover, are still for us prophetical : the time of the Church, between fulfilment and waiting, is the time of the unfolding of the intimacy between Christ and his spouse which is the Church, between Christ who is the Head and the Church that is his body.
