Abstract 0

The Sarr-Savoy report on the restitution of African heritage has caused controversy and tension. What can be the criteria for the restitution of objects? Modes of acquisition, uses in the original cultural context, modalities of return to Africa? The aim is here to take a step aside from the debate on the future of museums holding colonial collections, particularly Euro-centred. Restitution is not just the physical movement of an artefact from one museum to another, it is a symbolic gesture. Thus, in the blind spots of formal restitution, this Mineure seeks alternative forms of low-intensity restitution, from which new horizons of appropriation could open up.
