Anne Beauvallet et al., « Managing the Covid-19 Pandemic in Britain: A United Response? », HALSHS : archive ouverte en Sciences de l’Homme et de la Société, ID : 10.4000/12vm9
This edition of the Revue Française de Civilisation Britannique (French journal of British studies, RFCB) is devoted to some key aspects of Covid-19 in Britain, namely the multi-level governance of and response to the pandemic across England, Wales and Scotland. It partly stems from an international conference which took place in Paris in September 2022 and tackled the topic of “The Covid-19 pandemic in the United Kingdom: Social policy, politics and impact.” Several papers proved how crucial the issue of governance is when facing such a crisis and this is why we chose to focus on its multi-level dimension, its evolution and the relations between the central government and the devolved administrations. Although the articles deal with England, Wales and Scotland, this introduction will first contextualise the pandemic across the UK by highlighting its timeline and impact. It will then analyse the most salient issues in terms of devolution and local government so as to better present the articles comprised in the issue.
