In Le Parfum des sirènes (2018), Gisèle Pineau presents her vision of the Antillean family by challenging the traditional discourses associated with it. This article examines how the writer portrays a family saga dominated by female figures, and questions the matrifocal structure, inherited from the slavery period, often seen as characteristic of Antillean families. The author explores the tensions and transformations within this family unit while illustrating the emergence of new modern structures resulting from the social and cultural changes of the 21st century.
