Claire Cosquer, « « Expat’ » blancs, nouveaux riches arabes : Anxiétés « expatriées », distinction blanche et fractions racialisées des classes dominantes à Abu Dhabi », Sociétés contemporaines, ID : 10670/1.4ng7gy
This article analyses the French « expatriate » social position in Abu Dhabi and classification wars vis-à-vis Emirati nationals, through professional and cultural practices. It emphasises both the multidimensional and subjective aspects of social mobility in migration, as it involves racialized representations of social hierarchies in a transnational space. The article analyses this experience of social mobility as a postcolonial classification war between racialized fractions of upper classes, pinpointing how white expats reluctantly lose some of the economic, political and symbolical privileges of former white, colonial migrations.
