We report the results of a project of the University of Eastern Piedmont on the links between food and law in the history of Piedmont. The project has produced a database of laws regulating food ; such rules are numerous within local Piedmontese legislative texts (Bandi politici e campestri) from the sixteenth through nineteenth centuries. This database can be used to reconstruct certain characteristics of the food history of Piedmont in general, and of the alpine areas in particular. It is of interest to historians - in particular legal historians - and to modern-day judicial scholars working on initiatives for the protection and promotion of typical mountain products within the framework of EU legislation.
