"The effects of the financial consolidationof Brazil´s private health plan market warrantsinvestigation, as this trend could enhancethe power of large plans and affect the financingof the National Health System. From the standpointof the political economics of this sector, whilereflecting on the features of this consolidation,this paper discusses whether this more powerfulmarket clout might require the State to adopt amore active stance, especially if it wishes to enforcethe normative principles of the NationalSupplementary Health Regulator in order to protectconsumers, ensure regulated competition anddefend the public interest."
