Résumé 0

"As in many other countries Mexico is favoring women in education. From theperspective of gender in registration there has been what may be called a feminizationin higher education. In the year 1970 women in Mexico were only a fifth part of theacademic population in higher education, while in 2000 they were half. Furthermore thepercentage of women has risen in the sciences: health and social, as well as inadministration where women occupy sixty and fifty-six percent respectively. In the areaof humanities and education which has always had a higher percentage of women, thefigure now stands at sixty-five percent. However, in the areas of engineering andagriculture (considered masculine areas) even though in the last twenty years theamount of women has tripled, women only represent twenty-five percent. In the fields ofphysical and exact sciences the figure is forty-five percent of the total registration.Gender focus in terms of social implication and in the family and economic zones thenumber of women pursuing university careers has increased, now that consideration ofthe job market presses, women must play a double part since they must take care ofthe children and the home. Nor can women count on the infrastructure of the state(child care and meals, for example) since they must accept full time employment oraccept very low pay so that their decision making capacities are lowered. Reflectionsand propositions for action and strategy as well as political education so that obstaclescan be overcome has been undertaken, as well as utilizing all possible means toeliminate gender discrimination. In this way justice must be achieved for women, or atleast an equality between genders. "
