Neste ensaio são apresentados alguns temas como o “Prestígio” que o Crioulo Guineense tem recebido na sociedade da Guiné-Bissau, sobretudo depois da Independência, como estatuto de Língua nacional e factor de Unidade Nacional; hoje é verdadeiramente Língua de Comunicação dos 30 Povos da República da Guiné-Bissau. Depois do Motim do 7 de Junho de 1998, com o advento das Rádios Comunitárias e a abertura de numerosas escolas privadas ou em Regime de Autogestão, o Crioulo Guineense foi enriquecendo o Léxico com vocábulos pedidos em empréstimo da Língua Portuguesa. É apresentado também o Projecto de Apoio ao Ensino Bilingue das Ilhas Bijagós (PAEBB), iniciado no ano lectivo de 2000-2001, como continuação do Projecto dos Centros Experimentais de Educação e de Formação (CEEF) que tinha adoptado, em 1986, o Crioulo Guineense como língua de ensino. No PAEBB, financiado pela ONG CIDAC de Lisboa e pela União Europeia, os Manuais de Alfabetização em Crioulo Guineense têm sido revisados: foi também editado um Dicionário Bilingue e uma Gramática do CrG, e os Professores foram preparados com Cursos específicos no que diz respeito à Didáctica e à algumas regras do Ensino Bilingue.

This essay is presenting some subjects such as “the Prestige” that the Guinean Kriol (GKr) has received in the society of Guinea-Bissau, mainly after the Independence, now with the status of National language and factor of National Unity: it is truly the Language of Communication of the 30 Peoples of the Republic of Guinea-Bissau. After the riot of June 7, 1998, with the advent of Community Radios and the opening of numerous private schools, GKr has been enriching the Lexicon with words borrowed from the Portuguese Language. It is also presented the Bijagós Islands Bilingual Education Support Project (PAEBB), which began in the academic year 2000-2001, as a follow-up to the Project of Experimental Education and Training Centers (CEEF), which adopted, in the year 1986, GKr as a teaching language. In PAEBB, funded by the NGO CIDAC of Lisbon and the European Union, the old Literacy Manuals in GKr have been revised: also both a Bilingual Dictionary and a Grammar of GKr have been edited, and the Teachers were prepared with Courses concerning Didactics and some specific rules of Bilingual Education.
