Automatiser la conversation est un rêve fondateur de l’intelligence artificielle (IA). L’imitation et l’anthropomorphisme sont alors au cœur des analyses du concept d’IA. Cet article souhaite comprendre comment le premier contact entre robot et utilisateur est conçu. Pour cela, une méthode qualitative, utilisant la sociologie interactionniste, est investie dans un corpus de dix-neuf chatbots et douze entretiens avec des professionnels. Les résultats montrent une anthropomorphisation ambiguë de l’ouverture de la conversation. Cette ambiguïté est liée à une construction conjointe entre plusieurs acteurs aux imaginaires contradictoires. Cet article pose finalement la question de la nature sociale de l’IA.

Automating conversation is a founding dream of artificial intelligence (AI). Imitation and anthropomorphism are therefore at the heart of analyzes of the concept of AI. This article aims to understand how the first contact between robot and user is designed. For this, a comprehensive method, using interactionist sociology, is invested by a corpus of nineteen chatbots and twelve interviews with professionals. Results show an ambiguous anthropomorphization of the opening of the conversation. This ambiguity is linked to a joint construction between several actors with contradictory imaginations. This article finally raises the question of the social nature of AI.
