Les tribunaux mobilisent aujourd’hui de plus en plus des technologies de la communication pour permettre par exemple à un prévenu ou un témoin de comparaître à distance. Dans les vidéo-audiences au tribunal, l’image produite à l’ouverture ne correspond pas nécessairement au cadre de participation attendu pour l’activité, par exemple en ce qu’elle ne montre pas des participants appelés à jouer un rôle central dans l’audience, comme l’avocat. L’article analyse les trajectoires séquentielles pour « faire apparaître » par différents procédés (dire le cadre participatif ou montrer à l’image) les participants pertinents non visibles à l’écran, en montrant les tensions entre les implications séquentielles d’une apparition vis-à-vis de la progression de l’activité judiciaire.

Bringing a third person onto the screen in video communicationThe Courts are making increasing use of communication technologies to enable an accused or a witness to appear from a distant location. In video-mediated hearings, the image produced at the opening does not necessarily correspond to the expected framework of participation. For instance, it may not show some participants who play a central part in the hearing, such as the lawyer. This article analyses sequences which “bring forth” the relevant participants who are not visible on the screen, through various processes (e.g. by stating the participative framework, or pointing the participants out on the image). To do so it highlights the tensions between the sequential implications of an appearance, with regard to the course of the hearing.
