Un historien du Moyen Âge clôt ce dossier en rappelant la durée et la complexité de toute aventure humaine. La mondialisation est d’abord une aventure urbaine : elle procède d’une histoire amorcée dès le 9e siècle. Le marché « mondial » date du 10e siècle. La libéralisation des échanges au 18e siècle a renoué avec une situation antérieure. Conclusion : la mondialisation que nous redoutons ou voulons apprivoiser aujourd’hui est le produit, dans la longue durée, de l’évolution des sociétés qui y participent, et d’abord à travers leur développement urbain.
