Parce qu’il ne peut que représenter, le langage implique la croyance. Celle-ci a pour fonction de traiter le rapport du sujet humain au réel de son être, qui lui « ek-siste », et qui le laisse insatisfait de n’être dicible qu’à moitié. Ainsi, la croyance se mobilise au service d’une foi. L’article s’efforce de construire la logique qui va de la croyance « anonyme » au fanatisme, soit ce que la religion semble devenir lorsque la croyance est abandonnée au profit de la certitude. Ce parcours interroge la conjugaison des caractéristiques du lien social (à l’âge classique, à l’ère moderne, puis hypermoderne) avec la structure du sujet de la croyance et sa confrontation incessante au réel. La logique mise à découvert semble se boucler sur la multiplication des fanatismes et des passages à l’acte de type amok : peut-on en déduire ce qui pourrait œuvrer à une alternative viable pour chacun ?

Because it is only capable of representation, language entails belief. This has the function of dealing with the relationship between a human subject and the real of his being, that “ek-sists” to him and, being only half-sayable, keeps him unsatisfied. Belief therefore inures to the benefit of a faith. This article strains to establish a logic ranging from the “anonymous” belief to fanaticism, which seems to be what religion becomes when belief is abandoned in favour of certainty. This path questions the combined characteristics of the social bond (in the classical, modern, and finally hypermodern era) and the structure of the subject of belief as well as its ceaseless confrontation with the real. Thus exposed logic closes out with the foresight of the spread of fanaticism and amok-running acting outs : what is to be claimed to conduct to a more viable alternative for everyone ?
