Cet article interroge l’évidence avec laquelle on parle de l’importance du transcendantal dans la théologie de Karl Rahner. Il défend la thèse selon laquelle les références philosophiques, réelles, ne doivent pas masquer l’usage théologique qui en est fait. On distingue trois usages du concept «transcendantal» chez Rahner, et l’on discute surtout le sens dans lequel il forme un couple avec «catégorial».

This article examines the importance and the complexity of the transcendental in Karl Rahner’s theology. It defends the thesis according to which the real philosophical references must not be allowed to conceal the theological use which is made of them. We can distinguish three ways of using the concept of the ‘transcendental’ in Rahner’s work and may thus discuss the way in which it forms a couple with ‘categorial’.
